Testimonies

“I have been part of the program for about 6 years now. I started at the age of 12 at the very beginning of the program. I am now an alumni of Never the Less. I am a freshman at Central State University transferring to the University of Cincinnati to expand my education further. This program taught me to be the lady I feel myself gradually becoming. Never the Less is more than just an after school program it is a family that will always be there at your highest and lowest times.”
–Tayla

“The program Never the Less has afforded me the opportunity to venture out this summer and the Cincinnati Herald, for giving me my first job. Where I first learned how to conduct myself as a true professional, dress like a professional, be apart of an amazing team, and work for a winning newspaper. I thank everyone for my summer experience! At the Cincinnati Herald, I was provided the schedule to work Monday through Friday (10:00am-1:00pm) and I enjoyed every minute of my experience. My teammate and I have learned so much. The Cincinnati Herald has an amazing staff, a team of great writers, and phenomenal leaders. During my time I got to work for leader Michelle Kearney organizing files, answering phones, and becoming a member of the team.”

“During my summer experience at Never the Less I learned that attitude is most important. Having a great attitude ensures a great position and a good first impression. You have to be approachable as well as wear nice things. You need your clothes to say I mean business because how you present yourself is how people will treat you. They judge you before you even say a word. Patience is key! You need to be patient with yourself and others because everything is not going to go the way you want. I won’t just dream it I will make it a reality”

Poem

NEVER THE LESS

ALWAYS THE MORE

Even when poverty is beating at your door

When the weather changes, the street are calling your name

When your body change, the boys are doing the same

And sometimes before

When you feel like you don’t have any support

NEVER THE LESS

ALWAYS THE MORE

Even when your confidence is down

No self-esteem to be found

No friend in this town

And when you look all around

All you see

You think

Is all you’re ever going to be

But what I see is

NEVER THE LESS

ALWAYS THE MORE

Even when they tell you you’re nothing

And the system has labeled you in group of three

Dropout, pregnant, poverty

When the street feel more comfortable than home

And you have nothing to call your own

And the people behind you are casting their stones

Know that you aren’t what they said you were

NEVER THE LESS

YOU’RE ALWAYS THE MORE

Because for you,

Someone has opened a door

Someone has shown you they care

And that they’ll always be there

And that you can persevere

And you can make it out of here

With good grades

And a better career

With nothing to fear

But how far you’ll reach out

And you’ll know your worth

And know that you aren’t what they said you were

So just hang in there

Be the best you can be

And one day, you’ll see

That you are

NEVER THE LESS BUT ALWAYS THE MORE
